1st International Workshop on Multisensory Interactions in Extended Reality (MIX) at ISMAR 2025 in Daejeon, South Korea on October 8th, 2025

Researchers, practitioners, artists, and students in XR, join us for the one-day, in-person workshop on Multisensory Interactions in Extended Reality (MIX) in Daejeon, South Korea. MIX addresses the critical challenge of integrating visual, auditory, and haptic modalities for coherent, immersive XR with a focus on crossmodal congruence and embodied human-AI interaction. Our workshop offers a unique interdisciplinary platform, bridging HCI, engineering, cognitive psychology, and art to explore solutions beyond single-modality approaches.

The workshop will feature an inspiring keynote, paper presentations sharing novel research and ideas, and practical hands-on tutorials on designing audio and haptic interactions in XR. The workshop will culminate in a collaborative 'Designing with Senses' session. Attendees will learn state-of-the-art techniques, gain practical skills via the hands-on tutorials, exchange interdisciplinary ideas, collaborate on design challenges, and help shape the future research agenda for multisensory XR.

To submit a paper, please use this form to upload your submission by July 13, 2025, AoE. Selection prioritizes relevance to the workshop themes, aiming for a diverse, interdisciplinary mix of topics. Note that per ISMAR 2025 policies, workshop participants (including at least one author of each paper) must attend the workshop in Daejeon in person. All accepted authors must register at least for a one-day workshop ticket.

We look forward to exploring the future of multisensory XR with you at ISMAR 2025 in South Korea!

Submissions

Important Dates

  • Paper submission deadline: July 13th, 2025 (Sunday) AoE
  • Acceptance notification: August 1st, 2025 (Friday) AoE
  • Camera-ready materials: August 15th, 2025 (Friday) AoE

We welcome paper submissions of 2-4 pages, excluding references. All submissions must be in English. Paper quality versus length will be assessed according to a contribution-per-page judgment. All submissions will be accepted or rejected as workshop papers. Accepted papers will be published in the ISMAR 2025 adjunct proceedings and archived on IEEE Xplore. Papers must be formatted using the IEEE Computer Society VGTC template and will be subject to the registration and publication processing policy of ISMAR 2025. Submissions can be made via this form.

We are interested in a range of contribution types from small empirical studies of multisensory systems to technical, theoretical, or artistic explorations of the topic. The focus of the work can also be on unimodal sensory feedback (e.g., only audio or only haptic feedback). However, in this case, the paper must include a discussion on how the unisensory feedback would be integrated into a multisensory context. Submissions focusing on multisensory interactions in specific application fields, e.g., medical, automotive, industrial, or education, are furthermore welcome. And lastly, we also welcome position papers.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
